Hearing and sight intertwine, intersect and accept each other
It was during the realization of a great report on radio for his diploma in journalism that Adramé Ismyxël fell really in love with the sound. At the time, as a student, he aspired to a great career in investigative journalism but a mysterious event will upset his plans.
During a rainy morning in September 2016, he went to a locality in eastern Senegal to investigate an incredible case. Arrived at the scene, his attention was particularly attracted by a sound he heard in the distance. He listened and then, as if by spell, he approached to hear better. The sound in question was actually a song. A song sung by a small group of women who plowed a field accompanied by an old drummer. Adramé Ismyxël asked permission to immortalize these beautiful words with his dictaphone and, great was his surprise when it was granted. He recorded this beautiful traditional song and a few moments later, thanked and took leave of these benefactors. Back home, he was excited to listen to this famous song and grandissime was his disappointment when he realized that the sound he had recorded in his dictaphone had magically disappeared. It's since that day that he has understood that certain peoples have their secrets, secrets rooted in their culture, a culture that certainly changes over the years but remains at the same time rooted in its ancestral values. It is following this experience that Adramé Ismyxël now listens attentively to the sounds of everyday life and especially to all those seemingly insane sounds. With the help of his camera and recorder, he devotes himself to photography and what he calls sonic do-it-yourself. Two indissociable activities in his artistic approach. He traveled East (Tambacounda / Kedougou), West (Dakar), North (St. Louis) and South (Ziguinchor) of Senegal in search of sounds and images. His shots are made according to what he sees, feels and hears and he tinkers the sounds according to what he sees, hears and especially experiences. In his works, the image and the sound are harmonized for one and only purpose: to duplicate a reality in images in order to make it heard differently.
